Executives looking to boost their own profiles have for years paid freelancers to ghostwrite their LinkedIn posts. Now big PR firms are getting into the game, and LinkedIn profile management is going mainstream. Business Insider spoke to 14 PR firms that said more companies are asking for LinkedIn writing and strategy services for their leaders. Zappa said he does not offer specific rates for LinkedIn posts and instead includes LinkedIn in broader content contracts. However, he estimated that PR firms solely focused on LinkedIn ghostwriting could charge companies $5,000 a month for three to five LinkedIn posts.

Alabama lawmakers are moving fast to approve measures this week to protect in vitro fertilization clinics from lawsuits in response to an uproar sparked by last month's state Supreme Court ruling that found frozen embryos have the rights of children under the state’s wrongful death law. Either of the two bills would give legal protection for fertility clinics, at least three of which paused IVF treatments after the court ruling to assess their new liability risks. Here are things to know about the bills and the process of turning one of them into law. One lawmaker wanted to amend the House bill to prohibit clinics from intentionally discarding embryos, but that was rejected. Lawmakers are expected to give final approval to one — or maybe both — on Wednesday and send legislation to Gov.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The management team of Brian Wilson has petitioned to place him in a conservatorship because of his mental decline and the recent death of his wife, Melinda Ledbetter Wilson, who managed his daily life. The petition asks a judge to appoint two longtime Wilson representatives — publicist Jean Sievers and manager LeeAnn Hard — to be conservators overseeing his personal and medical decisions because “Mr. Wilson is unable to properly provide for his own personal needs for physical health, food, clothing, or shelter.”The two women “have had a close relationship with Mr. and Mrs. Wilson for many years, and Mr. Wilson trusts them,” according to the filing. Ledbetter — whose husband credited her with stabilizing his famously troubled life — had managed his daily needs before her death on Jan. 30, the petition says. The Wilson petition seeks only a conservatorship of his person, saying he does not need a conservator of the estate because his assets are in a trust, with Hard as a trustee.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration is marking Monday's 15th anniversary of a landmark federal pay equity law with new action to help close gaps in pay for federal employees and employees of federal contractors. Administration officials said this step will help limit pay discrimination and ensure compensation is based on an applicant's skills, experience and expertise. A similar proposal will offer protections to those employed by federal contractors. Administration officials said the proposal would help federal contractors recruit, diversify and retain talent, improve job satisfaction and performance and reduce turnover. In 2022, the federal government had a 5.6% pay gap compared with 16% nationwide.

Across the economy and country, women — and especially women of color — are paid less than their peers. "Relying on a candidate's salary history can exacerbate preexisting inequality in our pay structures, and disproportionately impact women and workers of color. And, as the National Women's Law Center chronicles , some employers use previous salaries as a benchmark for determining a new worker's salary — again essentially locking in some of the biases that could've kept that number lower. Research on salary history bans suggests that they are effective in narrowing pay gaps; one study , which focused on California's statewide salary history ban alongside other localities that enacted bans, found that the gender earning ratios increased, with women over the age of 35 particularly benefiting. The actions are pegged to the 15th anniversary of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, which, per the EEOC , is the first piece of legislation President Barack Obama signed into law.

Alabama Republicans on Friday defied a U.S. Supreme Court order by passing a new congressional map that includes only one majority-Black district. But on Friday, state Republicans approved a new map with just one majority-Black seat and a second district that is approximately 40% Black. "There was never any intent in this building to comply with their court order," said state Rep. Chris England, a Democrat from Tuscaloosa. "There was never any intent in this building to comply with the Voting Rights Act." "We've chosen to outright, blatantly disobey the law and to further attempt and vote to bury the Voting Rights Act."

Scammers are trying to cash in on the hype surrounding popular artificial intelligence chatbots including OpenAI's ChatGPT and Microsoft's Bing AI. A search on DEXTools, an interactive crypto trading platform that tracks prices, reveals about 287 tokens that mention "ChatGPT" in their name. They then promote the coin and convince investors to pour money into it in order to drive the price higher. The firm has identified at least one of those digital coins as having been created by a user notorious for "pump and dump" crypto schemes. Scam crypto tokens are commonly deployed on "permissionless blockchains" also known as public blockchains, says Chen Arad, chief operating officer at Solidus Labs, a cryptocurrency risk monitoring and market surveillance company.
The US health system benefits from potentially over $5 billion in free volunteer labor annually. Like paid employees, hospital volunteers typically face mandatory vaccine requirements, background checks, and patient privacy training. Nonprofit and for-profit hospitals alike benefit from volunteersNonprofit hospitals must follow federal labor laws, too. The U.S. Education Department’s civil rights enforcement arm has launched an investigation into a North Texas school district whose superintendent was secretly recorded ordering librarians to remove LGBTQ-themed library books. The comments, combined with the district’s subsequent decision to remove dozens of library books pending a review, fostered a “pervasively hostile” environment for LGBTQ students, the ACLU wrote in its complaint. Last year, voters in Granbury elected a pair of school board members who campaigned against LGBTQ-affirming school curricula and library books. “These comments, combined with the book removals, really send a message to LGBTQ students in the districts that: ‘You don’t belong here. Lou Whiting, a student at Granbury High School, becomes emotional after speaking against the removal of LGBTQ books at a Granbury school board meeting in March.
